We never celebrate Valentines day on the day, and yesterday was no different. Sorry, to say, that I'm not the greatest mom who thinks of making hearts out everything for the whole day, but Katelyn and I did make a chocolate dessert for the occasion.
So long as I have the ingredients measured out before hand and out of reach, she is a fine helper. She did a bang-up job doing the hard work of stirring.

For Sale: Baby must-haves
Ever since I had my baby girl and received a "hooter hider" as a gift, I have been making them for all my friends having babies back home. It was my one thing I couldn't live without. There is a girl at my church who is expecting for March and the ladies had a baby shower for her 2 weeks ago. Trying to think of things to make without spending a lot of money, I got crafty and found ways to use up my many scraps of material from the covers I have made.
I was given a cover that was two sided but never used it much, so I tore it apart and made one cover for Heather, (the first time mom).
Then I have seen baby gifts on Etsy.com and made a covered wipe case.
I had to make myself one first, so I didn't flub up my gift. I still had more left over of the brown and blue material, so I made a changing pad, something else I should have had.
I thought I did pretty good for spur of the moment. I had plans of being done before the shower, but of course, my last two gifts were last minute, so I was busy sewing up until I left for the shower.
Since I thought of my friends and of how many covers I have made, I thought I should maybe start selling them. So I put out a blurb on facebook and a friend ordered two and two covers as gifts. One cowboy and one for a girl. I still have to do the girl's and put the last bit of ribbon on the cover for the cowboy, but she was thrilled.
So blurb friends, pass the word, if you're looking for a one of a kind gift for a good girlfriend or family member. I'm here to please.

My Streaker
So, our pajama problems are getting better. Lately, she's gone to bed with a top on and no pants and that seems to be just fine with her. And the diaper is still on as of late, so that's something to be more happy about than the pajamas. Today, however, I had a little surprise after lunch. It had gotten very quiet while I was cleaning up our sun room, when someone walked into our room draped in my dish towels. (The dish towel cape is a normal thing around here) She was however, missing some other essential elements. The diaper and clothes were missing. I had taken her shirt off after lunch because it was dirty, again a normal thing. So she was missing her leggings and that all important pamper.
To her delight, she ran away from me, squeeling and giggling in all her naked glory. It was quite a fun game in her mind, that we were playing, and it was very funny to this mom. So video worthy, but no video was taken, except for these quick photos.
I probably shouldn't post these, and she would be so embarrassed later in life, but for now, this is my life and as some would say, she takes after her own mother. Of course, when I was her age, ahem!

Felt food
I started this small collection of food last fall, after a friend posted the idea on her blog. This stuff can be quite addicting but takes some thought and patience to make it. I've made all my own patterns and have just tried to figure it out as I go, which takes me longer to do, but I've enjoyed it and Katelyn loves to empty the bag and play with it. When she gets her own kitchen, she will be a busy little cook. 
(forgive the color and grainy pictures. I had to use my video camera because I was out of batteries for my camera, and it was late in the evening when I took these)
We have a grape juice box, complete with straw. She likes to pull out the straws in her real juice boxes, but this one is a big no-no to pull out.
Muffins complete with muffin tin. I've been thinking about adding some blueberries or chocolate chips to these plain muffins.
We have fried eggs, whole eggs and bacon
Bread with peanut butter and jam
Tomatoes and two kinds of lettuce

Swiss and Cheddar cheese. The pink oval in the first picture could be some type of cold cut for sandwiches.
I just get my ideas from pictures I've found and try to make up my own pattern. Future projects include: banana, hamburger patty and bun, chicken drumstick, breadsticks, pancakes with syrup and little pats of butter, watermelon slices, an apple juice box and an oreo cookie. We'll see how many I get done, but it has been fun and something to do on these cold days.

Quiet January
Things have been pretty quiet around here for the month of January. The weather has been up and down. Saturday it was 40+F and to day it is -3F. We took advantage of the warm weather on Saturday and played outside for the first time in a long while. The snow was melting and the sun was warm and then we hit the deep freeze again and are having to chop ice out of the water trough for my horse. Oh well, it is the last day of January.
Our latest struggles have been with Katelyn, keeping her diaper on during nap time or bed time. The first struggle was getting her to keep her pajamas on , but after she learned to shimmy out of her diaper and wet the bed, the pajamas aren't such a big thing anymore. I'll put her down for a nap with some books and she'll pee and takes off her diaper and then later falls asleep and wets the bed. One day, she called, "Da-yee, Da-yee" (daddy) and she had taken off her poopy diaper and had it all over her body and on her crib. This morning she took if off and had just dumped the poop out on her bedding. One nap time, she woke up and called us. We go in there and she looks at us and points to the puddle, "wa-er". (water) Oh the struggles. So we're thinking that maybe potty training may be in order and soon.
I haven't taken a lot of photos this month. I keep forgetting to buy batteries. We have a few new videos of her trying to eat when she's very tired. I must up load those. Other than that, I've been making more felt food for her and adding to the collection. I think I've spent $8 this month on pieces of felt. Still many ideas to come. I undertook the idea of making a muffin tin with a cereal box and grey felt. It turned out not too bad with 4 muffins. I know, pictures must come to explain felt food to people. She doesn't really play with it that much. She likes to dump out the bag and walk on it. Sometimes, she'll put it in a bowl or pot and she makes interesting soups and sometimes I can sample them. I did undertake real baking with her. Banana chocolate chip muffins were in order. I measured everything before so she could just dump it in. She put all the liners in the tin and put the chocolate chips on the batter. I think she had fun and she loves to eat those muffins. She's a great little helper, when she listens.
She went to her first birthday party yesterday. Her friend Emma, turned 5 and had a party at the Rumble park. It's a big building where they have 4 big inflatable slides and trampolines. There were tons of kids there, because they couldn't rent the whole place for the party so there were other kids just playing there. Katelyn is getting better and better playing with all the other kids, she still gets knocked around but she holds her own. She loved the big slide which I make daddy take her up because he can climb and carry her up there. We got Emma's dad Jason in on the slide and we couldn't get the guys off. They weren't actually supposed to be up there, but Katelyn did need help. 2 hours of playing, then cake and ice cream + no nap, meant Katelyn crashed on the way home. Which we made a stop to help a family clean up the hay bales that fell on the four lane highway during a very windy trip. I shouldn't say we, since I stayed in the car because I had my good clothes on and katelyn was sleeping, but other people stopped and helped clean up the mess.
Nothing exciting is on the horizon as far as we know. We kind of take it day by day around here.
Super bowl parties will be happening next weekend, so we'll see where we end up.

Dancing Queens
Before we left for Christmas, Jason was finishing a job in Meeteetse, so we tagged along and spent time at the CWAM base. Katelyn and her new friend, Brynn got along pretty well. This video was before supper and they were dancing to the music. After dancing with Brynn, Katelyn loves to dance and jump when we have music on.
Christmas 2010
We are back from our Christmas "vacation" and back into the routine of life at home. We were able to go to Manitoba for Christmas but we made a stop in South Dakota first to see some friends and take another friend pheasant hunting. So we left on the weekend before Christmas and drove to Chamberlain, SD. Jason and our friend Travis took J.W pheasant hunting for his first time. I think he had fun. 
He was also there to make some connections with the hunting lodge where they went. He is a business consultant, you could say, and they need help with their business.

Travis and Jenna have wild turkeys running on their farm, so Jason went and shot 2 of them for supper one night. The turkey strips were awesome.

We stayed with Travis and Jenna and their busy brood of 3 over the weekend and then we left on Tuesday to travel to the great white north.
The roads were horrendous from the North Dakota border till about Grand Forks. Solid sheets of ice, but we made it safe and by passed over a dozen vehicles in the ditch along the way. It was nice to get out of the car and into a warm house. Katelyn did amazing on the two trips it took to get home as well as on the way back to Wyoming. Thank goodness for dvd players. That kept her occupied most of the time if she wasn't sleeping. I felt bad doing it but with the roads as bad as they were, it was just so much easier to keep her quiet.
We spent a lot of time at my parents. Jason was able to do some work for them. Putting up a railing around the stairs into the basement and ceiling tile in the basement. He and I took a trip to Winnipeg, alone, and drove around. Checked out some boxing day sales, but walked away with nothing. I wanted to show him the Manitoba museum and the Forks. The museum wasn't as great as I remember but still good. I think he liked it. He gave up watching the new Narnia movie for me, but the museum probably wasn't as great as the movie would have been. We drove into the Forks just to show him the venue. He thought it was cool. We were pressed for time since my cousins were coming over in the evening. So we drove home. Katelyn stayed with Auntie Janesa and Grandma.
I was able to see my girlfriends a few times, which I had missed. We picked up where we left off. I didn't see all of them but the ones I saw were probably the ones I'm closer to anyways. I saw some new babies and Katelyn just loved the new babies. Wonder if she's trying to tell me something?
She just loved Lisa's little Orrin. It was quite precious.
We were able to see my mom's side of the family on the 26th. Katelyn got to meet her 2nd cousin, Sephira and her Great-Grandpa Peters. We also took a quick 4 generation picture with my grandpa. My Grandma passed away 2 years ago so this was extra special and important that we take this picture.

New Year's eve we went to my friend, Nettie's house with other girlfriends and their families. There were about 11 kids ranging from 5 yrs old to 1 month old. It was fun. New Year's day we went to my grandpa's for lasagna. He was happy we stayed, so he could see us one more time.
We left on Jan. 2nd but we had to stop for some coffee and Timbits from Tim Horton's first. We had a flat tire after we turned onto I-94, so that put in some extra time, but we got it fixed in Miles City and made it to Billings at 9pm. It was good to get out of the car. We drove the last 1 1/2 hrs home the next day.
